Day 100

Today was Day 100 in my four commitments to write poetry, juggle, do an ab workout, and review my life purpose and vision I discovered in March. So, naturally, I decided to write my poem about Day 100 and the 100 Day Commitment process...

Day 100 is here at last!
A goal was set and is officially complete.
More than fourteen weeks have now gone past,
over which an activity I did repeat.

There were four activities to be exact;
the improvement in each very fulfilling.
It's amazing the progress and committed impact,
and it all starts from just being willing.

Willing to be disciplined before you've even begun,
willing to beat human resistance to the core,
willing to forgive and start back at day one;
and once you reach 100; well, why not do more?

The Run

This poem is dedicated to that crazy activity that constantly pushes human limits...

The run
is joyful.
The run
is boundless.
The run
is rhythmic.
The run
is hard work.

The run
is the climb up the mountain.
The run
is the descent down the mountain.
The run
is another chance to face the beast.
The run
is dominion in action.

The run
is when resistance tries harder the further you go.
The run
is when fatigue yells no.
The run
is when you yell "Yes!"
The run
is when you decide to go.

The run
is a classroom.
The run
is when the majority of demonstrations happen.
The run
is consistent progress.
The run
is an just as much a discovery as an escape.

The run
is freedom.
The run
is where there are no rules.
The run
is possible.
The run
is happening...
right this moment.

The run
on the path less traveled
is as quick as
the walk
on the straight and narrow path.
The run
also often turns the path less traveled
into the straight and narrow.
The run
therefore begs the question:
Why walk the straight and narrow
when you can RUN it?

Tonight's Gratitude

My gratitude for the evening...

I'm grateful to God for daily bread;
always a new moment to explore.
I'm grateful that God has a plan for me;
for knowing now and nothing more.

I'm grateful for Life and its supply,
and all of its surprises unknown.
My heart is singing the purest joy,
the purest joy it has ever known.

Life Is

A poem I wrote in Sunday School about Life...

Life is.
Life is here.
Life is now.
Life is always.
Life is good.
Life is unbeatable.
Life is pure.
Life is self-sustaining.
Life is understanding.
Life is evolving.
Life is progress.
Life is a walk.
Life is a run.
Life is free.

Life simply is.

Love Reigns

"Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."

Love reigns.

It breaks the chains,
cleans the stains,
and heals the pains.

It stops the rains,
and hurricanes.

It brings us gains,
and leads us down God's lane.

Divine Love will remain.

Decision Making

"Not my will, but Thine be done."

There are many,
when there should be one.
There's worry,
when there should be fun.
There's human,
when there should be divine.
I'll just trust
that everything's gonna be fine.
When my will
wants to tear me limb from limb,
I'll still trust
that it's all up to Him.
'Cause I know
that I'm here to grow and learn.
So I'll show
what I reap is mine to earn.
Since God's plan
is most definitely preferred,
the first step
is to listen for His Word.

God's Message

This is the comforting message I heard from God a few days ago in the form of poetry...

Take a deep breath,
there's a whole lot left.
Step back and see,
just let it flow naturally.

I'm by your side--
in front of you and behind.
You'll never be anywhere
where you are not in my care.

Whole-hearted trust
is a definite must,
for you shall say happily,
"I know that God is with me!"

And I'll reply, "You are right!"
I always hold on tight
to the perfect children I make.
I never make a mistake.

You are whole and complete,
never missing a beat,
always expressing Me;
the Truth makes you free.

Courageous and fearless
you live your life tearless;
'cause with Me by your side
you shall forever abide.

My Camp Vision

My vision for Camp Owatonna this summer and every summer...

There's a dedicated camp out there
that knows exactly how to live.
Their purpose and their custom
is to always be ready to give.

There's no place like it.
There's really nowhere else
where you can so fully get out
of the mindset of self.

It's the purest site on earth.
Whether with others or alone,
you'll get out what you put in
at this home away from home.

The counselors are committed
completely to their kids.
The love unconditionally--
something selfishness forbids.

They are leaders with dominion.
They don't believe in any lack.
Making a difference in others' lives
with "Be the Best" as their chief plaque.

Where is this place out there
that boys return to again and again?
It's Camp Owatonna:
the camp that builds true men.

Beyond

I wrote this one on the last night of the Alaskan cruise...

In the innocent ripple,
in the rhythmic waves,
in the high cliff faces,
in the big bear caves,

In the towering mountain peaks,
in the cold glacial ice,
in the humpback whales,
in bigger than what will just suffice,

In the sun through the clouds,
in the dancing light reflections,
there lies one simple thing:
complete perfection.

...Yet even beyond this perfection,
lies something yet to be seen.
It will transcend the realm of possible.
Please let it crash over me.

Holly's Poems

So one of the many things I learned while in Alaska was that my 16 year-old sister is a fabulous poet. She wrote three amazing poems in three consecutive nights while we were on our cruise. I figured I'd post them to my blog, so here they are in the order that they were written. The third one is especially powerful...

Alaska
Unplugged from confusion,
must leave it behind at last.
Surrounded by the ocean,
the storm has finally past.

We plunge into the beauty;
the nowhere of it all.
Alaska is a stranger
where foreign creatures crawl.

I stand up on the bow
with the wind against my face.
I feel so at home
in the free, majestic place.

The beauty of our earth
just flooded my green eyes.
Where water meets the shore,
and the mountains kiss the skies.

The ocean's determination
to be there for the whale.
The whale jumps, breaks its surface,
and then happily wags its tail.

The natural coexistence,
and the painting it creates
surround us with perfection
in its raw and untouched state.

We leave no trace behind us,
but the peace that came before;
and all that we take with us
are the memories that we store.

Digital or mental
our pictures will remain;
and so will great Alaska,
which will ever be the same.

--HW 6/09

Collecting Scenes
A bear lurks at the forest's edge.
Five whales come say hello.
The puffins float right by our side.
The sea lion's bark is low.

The otter smiles as it plays.
The eagle gives us the eye.
The moose gallops down the beach
as we float on by.

The glaciers carve inch by inch.
The mountains stand their ground.
The glassy water mirrors the sky.
The ocean makes no sound.

We spend hours collecting scenes
with cameras by the bow,
until the sun falls asleep
somewhere beyond the clouds.

--HW 6/09

What It Must Be
A friendly attack,
a look in the eye.
Though we rip through it,
the ocean never cries.

A crack in the ice,
the view from behind.
Though they fall apart,
the mountains won't rewind.

The eagle eats the fish.
The bear growls in pain.
Though the boat barges through,
peace will still remain.

The gruesome fight of nature
to be what it must be.
The avalanche and storm
create the calm beauty.

Nature isn't sad
for the things it may have lost.
Death brings out new life;
such glory has a cost.

The troubles we face
may come and they may go,
but the mountains cannot hide
under the thin white snow.

Though the damage may be out
for everyone to see,
every part of nature
creates its beauty.

And so the earth is whispering,
telling us the key:
let go of the past
and, at last, be free.

Alaska

Here's a poem I wrote the first night on the cruise in Alaska...

There's a consciousness here unlike
any place I've ever been.
One that envelops the human senses;
I shall describe it with my pen.

There's a coexistence here unlike
any place I've ever seen.
It has the look of purity;
the colors of blue and green.

There a peace here unlike
any place I've ever heard.
It has the sound of serenity;
the gentle calling of a bird.

There's a freedom here unlike
any place I've ever felt.
It has the touch of infinitude;
together sea and sky melt.

There's an aroma here unlike
any place I've ever smelled.
It has the scent of imagination,
a freshness that can't be quelled.

There's a flavor here unlike
any place I've ever tasted.
It has the taste of forgiveness;
renewal will not be wasted.

I've unmasked this new sensation,
and it's everywhere I'll ever be.
God's creation of liberation
to all who have an impulse to be free.
